Firewood Permits

Any citizen or landowner in Crow Wing County can purchase a permit to cut firewood from designated areas located on county owned lands. Permits will be issued for up to 10 cords for $30. Please call or visit our office to talk to a Natural Resource Manager for availability.

Regulations


  1. Firewood permit is $30 for up to 10 cords
  2. Cut only dead or downed timber
  3. No cutting of live trees
  4. Utilize trees to a 4” top diameter or smaller
  5. All stumps resulting from firewood cutting will not exceed a height of 9 inches above the ground
  6. All wood cutting will be conducted in a manner that will not interfere with other authorized operations
  7. Extreme caution will be taken at all times to prevent the obstruction or littering of any public road or highway, any private road, or other main road providing access to land during or as a result of any operations necessary for the removal of firewood
  8. The firewood permit allows cutting only in assigned area. If there is not enough wood in assigned area the permit holder needs to contact the Crow Wing County Natural Resource Manager
  9. The firewood permit must be in possession during wood cutting
